Mercedes Benz 190E 6.0 AMG
AMG 190E 6.0 litre, about 400+ hp.
The garage went through it and took the motor down, there are now new bolts everywhere. The engine is told to be from a 560 series, single cam V8, but with upgraded pistons and reworked insides. The battery is mounted in the trunk because of the weight factor.
It is a genuine AMG from the factory throughout, and it certainly also look like it. There are some extra gauges under the radio (Probably the same as the ones in the 16-valved ones), and extra wood trim around the dash. It has full black leather interior with tough cowhide.
There's nothing mechanically from the 190 on it, driveshaft, rear diff, radiator, brakes etc are all bigger and better. Even the underhood padding is removed since there isn't any room with the huge motor. Also no room for a moving fan, it relys on three electric fans on the front since the radiator is twice as thick and the pulleys are too close. Also no serpentine belts, only vbelts.
This car is a socalled widebody, a name AMG used on their tuned Mercedes when they had widened the body, hence the name.
The car is a 1987 Mercedes Benz 190E 6.0 AMG and its asking price is (was?) 25.000$.

W201 - Engine facts
[Tens de ter uma conta e sessão iniciada para poderes visualizar esta imagem]
In this section you will find interesting and useful facts on the engines in the W201 body. To navigate this page you can either use the menu above or simply scroll down.
Intro
In November 1982 the production of the Mercedes Benz W201 model started. By then there had been quite some discussions in forehand about this new, "small" model from Mercedes Benz. These discussions of course also included the engines. When the model finally came, it turned out it had a 90 hp 2.0-litre with carburetor. But that was merely the beginning..
GENERAL INFO
Gasoline models
The 2.0-litre engine was also available with fuel injection, this was known as the 190E (Later the 190E 2.0). This more modern technology gave 122 hp from the same engine volume. One year later, the 190E 2.3-litre came along.
This was the 2.3-litre from the W123 with 136 hp. As a matter in fact, all of these engines actually came from the old W123. This trend of sharing engines continued as the 190 2.6-litre came along in 1987. This engine gave 166 hp and came from the W123's replacement, the W124, and also from the current S-Class, the W126.
The 2.0-litre engine with the carburetor was actually the base model as long as until 1990, when it was exchanged with the newly developed 1.8-litre. This engine did not give quite as much boost as the 2.0-litre engine, but was a more affordable alternative. It also was more fuel-saving and modern than the 2.0-litre with carburetor.
Diesel models
Different from the gasoline-engines, the diesels were all new engines.
The first, and smallest, one was introduced in 1983, and was a 2.0-litre 72 hp engine (This engine was later available in the W124).
The diesel-palette grew, as the W201 one and a half year later was available with a 2.5-litre diesel engine which gave 90 hp. There were also a 190D 2.5 Turbo with 126hp (This engine was also available in the W124).
Due to strict pollution laws, the american 2.0-litre diesel-model had to be changed into a 2.2-litre. This engine however, gave the same amount of horsepower.
Electric models?
Well, not exactly, only one were ever made. It was a test-vehicle developed in 1990. Click here to see more about it.
16-VALVED MODELS
In September 1983 the 190E 2.3-16 was presented. This engine was a 2.3-litre with 16 valves, and was first made only as a test-car, the "190E 2.3-16 Nardo". During a test-ride the Nardo drove about 50000 km in 202 hours with an average speed of 247.9 km/h. Remember, we're still only in 1983! ( Click here to see more about the Nardo).
This was a slightly modified model, and the ones that hit the streets (literally) had a top speed of about 230 km/h. The 2.3-16 was succeeded by a slightly more powerful 16 valved engine in 1988; the 2.5-16.

2.5-16 Evolution models
The 2.5-16 came in two Evolution-variants, and there was only produced 502 copies of each. The Evolution I was launched and produced in 1989, and the Evolution II in 1990. Whilst the Evo I didn't have any difference in power output compared to the stock 2.5-16, the Evo II had well over 200hp and a top speed of 250 km/h. The Evolution II also had wild fender flairs and spoilers. There was also produced a racing version of this.

Cosworth
All the 2.3-16 W201 models had engines developed by Cosworth Engineering of Northampton. Mercedes Benz supplied Cosworth with their standard M102, the four-cylinder 2.3-litre block, and Cosworth then equipped it with a 16-valve cylinder head. I'm not sure wether they also developed the 2.5-16 engine.
EURO VS US
This is the section where I want to summon up technical differences between the US and European versions. If you are aware of some, [email]please let me know[/email].
The European version of the 2.3-16 ran a 10.5:1 compression, versus 9.7:1 for the US version. European versions also had a higher redline (7200 rpm vs 6800 for the US) from a different fuel pump cut off relay, and also had a lower ratio rear axle which gave higher top speed. The Euro version achieves 185hp with the same displacement by using cams with higher lifting (longer duration) and also uses an euro exhaust. This exhaust looks the same as the US version, but is more free flowing.
The 16V uses mechanical lifters instead of Hydrolic so valve adjustment is critical to smooth operation.

In February 1992 the AMG 190E 3.2 came for sale. This was one of the first AMGs with a Mercedes-Benz warranty. This car was not only special as regards engine, it was also easily recognizable with its distinct AMG body kit. This car was no ordinary car, with 234 hp it was made solely for active and luxurious driving. Below we take a look on the components of the AMG 190E 3.2.
[Tens de ter uma conta e sessão iniciada para poderes visualizar esta imagem] ENGINE
All the experience AMG has in building performance engines comes from Motor sport. As they say; "It is the hardest and best school for us and our engines". The AMG 190E 3.2 is of course no exception, and features a powerful engine designed for performance driving. The engine in the AMG 190E 3.2 consisted of a Mercedes-Benz 3.0 litre engine that was stroked to 3.2 litre. The output of this engine was 234 hp (172 kW) and 305 Nm. This 190 was definitely one of the fastest 190's ever built, with a 0-100 km/h speed of only 7.7 seconds, and 244 km/h as top speed!
[Tens de ter uma conta e sessão iniciada para poderes visualizar esta imagem] TRANSMISSION
Manual - The 5-speed transmission in the AMG 190E 3.2 comes from a 300E-24. This sporty and direct transmission ensures that the potential of the 234 hp is used to its fullest. This transmission is adjusted to fit the hightened hp and Nm in the AMG 190E 3.2.

Automatic - The 4-speed automatic transmissionds found in the AMG 190E 3.2 comes from the 300E. This transmission gives, despite the fact that it is and automatic transmission, the driver the ability to drive sportively.

SUSPENSION
The AMG 190E 3.2 was a car designed for active and sporty driving, as well as being refined and comfortable. To combine this AMG lowered the car using AMG special springs and shocks. This gave the car supreme curve manouverability, and also raised the dynamic safety at high speed.
[Tens de ter uma conta e sessão iniciada para poderes visualizar esta imagem] WHEELS
The AMG 190E 3.2 was equipped with five 225/45 ZR 16 alloy wheels. These wider tires gave a wider track and helped give better handling in high speed. This resulted in improved stability and steering sensitivity.
[Tens de ter uma conta e sessão iniciada para poderes visualizar esta imagem] BRAKES
The brake system on the AMG 190E 3.2 reflects the high power output of the engine. The front brake system consists of two large ventilated discs with larger brake pads, while the rear brakes are built up with large single discs and pads. This brake system results in reduced brake length and more stabile braking, while it is more reluctant against fading.
[Tens de ter uma conta e sessão iniciada para poderes visualizar esta imagem] EXHAUST SYSTEM
The AMG exhaust system on the AMG 190E 3.2 is equipped with a metal catalytic converter. This system does not just give more power, it does so while keeping in with the emission regulations.
It is also good looking, with its two square chrome tailpipes.

W201 Body Conversions
The W201 model only came as a sedan, which was quite a pity. The design of the car would have made a stunning convertible and coupe (later seen on the W124). Luckily there were some taking action in this matter, several companies specialized in making convertibles made their version of the W201.
Of course there also were private initiative as regards changing the looks of the W201. Most of these "home-made" conversions consisted of adding a bodykit or changing the color, but not everyone were satisfied with this..
CONVERSION FOR DISABLES
Mercedes Benz also made a "conversion" of the W201-chassis though. This was perhaps not as sporty as the conversions made by the tuning-companies, but most certainly useful to many people. Mercedes Benz came up with a conversion making the W201 quite handy to people who where disabled. The rear door (On the driver side at least) was hinged like doors are on mini vans, sliding back instead of opening outwards.

W201 CONVERTIBLES
Several companies specialized in converting cars made their own edition of the W201, some were minor changes, and some were quite severe. The convertible variety were the most popular one to convert to. Unfortunately almost all of these companies had to close down due to lack of money.
This convertible was made by ABC Exclusive Tuning Company, also closed down.

These two conversions I don't know anything about, but I think they look quite similar to the ABC-conversion.
CONVERTIBLE "LIGHT"
There were also made some "open-air" varietys of the W201 chassis. I think these look like the Bauer-cabs from BMW. Anyone know any more about these? If so, please [email]let me know.[/email]

KERMIT & BARBIE
Two W201-owners in Haugesund, Norway found out that they wanted a change. They just didn't think that their cars were cool enough anymore. So they sent them to a paintshop to do something about it. One thing is for sure; they were both shocked when they saw the result..

BUILDT BY ANDREAS LUNDBERG
Ever wanted to "modernize" the looks of your W201? Well, a Swede called Andreas Lundberg wanted so.. And he did. How about CLK taillights? Or SLK headlights?

W201 LOWRIDER
It would be nice to have an off-roader once in a while, wouldn't it? Well, so why don't you make one? Gideon did...
